Myrsine australis (mapau, red matipo)<MAUS.JPG">Grows to 6m high. Found along forest margins and in scrubland up to 900m. Young branches have reddish bark. The thick, leathery leaves are 3-6 cm long and 1.5-2.5 cm wide, with wavy (undulating) margins and pale undersurfaces.
